Budget cuts lead to university closures

11th Aug 2010

The majority of heads of UK universities believe that public spending cuts will lead to closure, new figures have revealed. Yet although three quarters of those questioned felt that some institutions would disappear, almost none of those asked thought their own university would close.

The poll also showed that two-thirds of universities were considering an international presence to combat the funding deficits, the BBC reports.

The survey also found that these heads believed that effective leadership was in place, although in 60% of cases University staff did not share this confidence.
