For some in post-16 education, every day can be a marathon, but they won’t be getting a medal or applause when they cross the finish line. Students should not lower standards, says UCU

The universities minister, David Willetts, was under fire this morning (Thursday) after telling students to lower their sights and apply to ‘less competitive’ universities next year.
